John is the CEO & Founder of Axiom HQ, a RegTech firm that services some of the world’s largest banks and asset managers. The Axiom platform he co-created with his team provides rules-mapping, attestation, and control framework software to compliance teams, helping them mitigate their regulatory risk.
John gained his BSc in Computer Science with Cognitive Science at UCL in the late 1990s, with a specialisation in genetic algorithms and machine learning. Since then, John has had 20 years’ experience as a systems architect and technology leader, solving complex business problems and managing agile development teams.
Some of the exciting problems that John has tackled include: automating KYC and onboarding processes, forward-ladder modelling and post-trade analytics, commodity-backed Sharia-compliant deposit and loan processing and the automation of workflow for client asset regulation.
He is currently interested in using predictive analytics to help firms identify potential compliance issues at an early stage and reduce regulatory breaches. In evenings and weekends, he experiments with games programming on Unity 3D to amuse his 3 young sons.
Matthew began his career in the insurance industry where he trained as a fine art and high net worth underwriter before moving into technology services to focus on software change management and user experience.
Matthew believes that any business is only as good as its ability to execute, and that modern, fit-for-purpose technology is the best way to ensure high-quality execution in every area.
Recognising that regulatory compliance in the financial services sector is often saddled with manual processes and endless compromises, he set out to design a platform that would enable compliance professionals to deliver best-in-class results in this oft-neglected space.
After co-creating Axiom to do exactly this, Matthew now leads the product team in delivering a programme of features and improvements that continue to delight users and deliver tangible business value. He’s passionate about product management that balances strategic and tactical objectives and thinks that knowing what to do is often less important than knowing when to do it.
Matthew holds a degree in Philosophy and English and is equally happy debating the nature of reality or the correct usage of a semicolon. He is a lifelong gamer and owns significantly more board games than could reasonably be called sensible. Do not ask him what he thinks about Monopoly.
